LOCATION: Mesnier Primary School- lunch/recess hours
DETAILS: 9.5-month support staff position for 2024-25, with no fringe benefits. These are part-time positions, 11.25 hours per week.
COMPENSATION: According to the Support Staff Pay Schedule. This position begins at $15.00 hourly.
JOB SUMMARY: Monitors supervise students, communicate with building staff and administration when dismissing from the cafeteria or playground. Monitors provide and maintain a safe and orderly school environment for the students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A candidate with prior experience supervising children in a daycare, school, or camp setting is preferred.
- CPR and first aid certification training is preferred.
- Demonstrate an ability to work with children in a positive manner.
- Have basic knowledge of student special needs, if applicable.
- Have excellent relationships with administration, employees, students, parents, and the public.
- Excellence attendance, highly dependable, flexible to changes.
- Ability to work independently, use good judgment, think quickly, and respond to situations in a calm, caring manner is required.
- Ability to redirect and interact positively with students is required.
- Ability to effectively supervise school-age children is required.
- Ability to listen well and respond to questions from students in a professional manner is required.
- The ability to work as a team player, communicate and collaborate with staff is required.
- The ability to develop effective working relationships with students and the school community is required.
- The ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multicultural student population is required.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures when outside.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor students during lunch, recess, or study hall during school hours.
- Monitor students entering the cafeteria, waiting in line at the cafeteria, while eating, ensuring all students have something to eat.
- Assist students in opening containers or providing additional support during lunch.
- Assist and support student behavior management.
- Refer students to the office when necessary (serious misbehavior, illness, injury requiring first aid).
- Communicate all behavioral concerns while at lunch or recess to appropriate staff and administration.
- Assess the playground for any safety concerns and check the conditions of equipment students are able to use.
- Notify office personnel immediately of any emergency (unsafe situations, stranger, stray animal, runaway student, etc).
- Track playground equipment.
- Ensure students do not leave the parameters of the cafeteria or playground.
- Prevent children from meeting or leaving with any person who does not have proper authorization obtained from the school office.
- Supervise children indoors during inclement weather.
- Dismiss students according to building procedures.
